Profile with Nwoba Chika Nwoba – List of local government areas in the South East of Nigeria
In today's edition of profile, we shall be taking a cursory look at the super local government areas in the South East of Nigeria, super in the sense that each of them makes up a federal constituency without being paired with any other LGA as in the case of other constituencies which have up to four LGAs making a single federal constituency. Such LGAs can only be found in Abia & Anambra States and they include:
1. Bende LGA:
Bende LGA is in Abia State with 13 council wards and 13 communities such as: Alayi, Igbere, Bende, Ezukwu, Item, Itumbuzo, Nkpa, Ntalakwu, Ozuitem, Ugwueke, Umuimenyi, Umuhuezechi & Uzuakoli, making it one of the smallest LGAs in th state. Bende is the only single LGA having a federal constituency in Abia. It's as currently being represented by Rt Hon. Barr Benjamin Kalu who's the deputy speaker of the House of Reps. He was elected on the platform of the APC. This is also Sen. Oji Uzo Kalu's local government of origin. He's the first democratically elected governor of Abia State.
2. Aguata LGA:
Aguata LGA is in Anambra State and has 20 council wards and 12 communities such as: Akpo, Amesi, Ekwulobia, Umuona, Uga, Nkpologwu, Ezinifite, Isuofia, Ikenga, Igboukwu, Achina, Aguluezechukwu, Oraeri & Umuchu.
Aguata LGA stands as a single LGA with its own federal constituency as represented by Chief Dom Okafor on the platform of APGA. Some of the personalities from Aguata LGA include the current governor of Anambra State, Prof. C. C Soludo, former governor of the state, Late Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, oil magnate, Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafo (JEZCO Oil), the Ubah family -- Sen. Andy Ubah, Sen. Ugochukwu Ubah & Chief Chris Ubah, etc. It was from Aguata that Orumba North & South LGAs were created. The headquarters of Aguata is Ekwulobia.
3. Ihiala LGA:
Ihiala LGA has 20 council wards and 10 communities such as: Okija - 5 wards, Uli -3 wards, Ubuluisiuzo, Amoka, Isseke, Ihiala, Mbosi, Azia, Osumoghu & Ihiala. Okija is the largest community in Anambra State with 34 villages. Ihiala as an LGA has a federal constituency of its own as represented by Hon. Paschal Agbodike on the platform of APGA. Some of the personalities from Ihiala LGA include: former governor of Anambra State, Late Barr Dr Chinweoke Mbadinuju, oil magnate, Dr Obiejesi Jackson (ObiJackson oil), socialite, Chief Emeka Okonkwo (E-money), oil magnate, Dr ABC Ojiako among others. The local government hosts over 7 universities including the main campus of the Anambra State University, Uli.
4. Ogbaru LGA:
Ogbaru is a single LGA that stands as a federal constituency of its own. It has 16 council wards and 16 communities such as: Atani, Akili-Ogidi, Akili-ozizo, Amiyi, Mputu, Obaogwe, Ohita, Ossamala, Odekpe, Ogbakuba, Ochuche- Umuodu, Okpoko, Ogwuaniocha, Ogwuikpele, Umuzu & Umunankwo. The Ogbaru LGA as a federal constituency is represented by Hon. Afam Ogene on the platform of Labour Party. Some of the personalities from Ogbaru include highlife music icons, Osita Osadebe & Chijioke Mbanefo, oil magnate & politician, Sen. Stella Odua and others.
